Irma and Marion 鈥淲oody鈥� Woods sign the Woods Scholarship for Broadcast into existence as Courtney Goddard, vice
president for Advancement and executive director of the UCM Alumni Foundation; Kathy Leicht, associate dean of the
College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; and Joe Moore, chair of the Department of Communication and
Digital Media Production, look on.

 

Those who live or have lived in Warrensburg know the voice. Marion 鈥淲oody鈥� Woods has been synonymous with radio, the 欧美视频 (UCM) and Mules and Jennies athletics for nearly five decades. All the while, Irma Woods has been right there, serving the community at Truman (formerly Johnson County) Title Company. Woody and Irma鈥檚 names will live on at UCM as they have established the Marion 鈥淲oody鈥� Woods and Irma Woods Scholarship for Broadcast. 

The Woods were on campus for the official scholarship signing in front of about 20 friends, faculty and students on Nov. 19 in the CTV Studios.

鈥淲hen we got to talking about this, I was thrilled with the idea of visiting with Woody, with asking Irma to be a part of this,鈥� said Joe Moore, chair of the Department of Communication and Digital Media Production. 鈥淭his is a way to celebrate his legacy, what they鈥檝e meant to this community, what they mean to our students, and what they mean to our program.鈥�

鈥淣ot everybody gets to do their entire life what they like,鈥� Woody said. 鈥淏ut I do. My wife got to do that. Someday I鈥檒l have to quit, but you hear this a lot with something like this: It鈥檚 giving back, and that鈥檚 what this is. I wanna help somebody else do what I鈥檝e done, if I can.鈥�

The criteria for the scholarship include being a student in good standing at UCM, being enrolled in a program within the Department of Communication and Digital Media Production, and demonstrating an interest in radio broadcasting and/or production, with preference given to students who are members of the Radio Club.
